Catwalk Look 1 - Antonio Marras S/S 2016 Catwalk in Milan - Analyse

The make-up artist, Tom Pecheux headed the M.A.C make-up team to complete the make-up look for Antonio Marras S/S 2016 Catwalk in Milan. On below is a video showing the backstage of the catwalk show and Tom Pecheux has talked about his ideas and inspirations of the make-up design which he has done for this catwalk.
On below is what Tom Pecheux commented and explained his design ideas for the catwalk look and also the theme and meanings of Antonio Marras's collection in the video :
" I did a very playful make-up. It is a kind of surrealistic make-up with a lot of references. The pink has a kind of youthful, dolly feeling. The metallic represents industry, technology. The black dots stand for the surrealism and the lips are more like a grown up person, very feminine.
Antonio is taking us on a long journey. The reference was an Armenian artist. Armenia went through a war and many people had to escape their country. Through this collection Antonio explains that no matter where you are in the world, not matter how much you embrace other cultures, you are born in a place and it is your DNA. And at the end it become a mix of your DNA and all the other cultures you embrace. That is what I express with this make-up."
After watching Tom Pecheux's interview, it interests me about the make-up look he has designed for this catwalk and this is one of the reason why I choose this catwalk for my project. I also found the make-up very unique as it involves a lot of meanings behind which catches my eyes.

I like the answer from Tom Pecheux where the reporter asks him that what can we, 'normal girls', take from this make-up? and he explained that "Everything. It is a fashion show so we have to pass on a message and the message is powerful. But maybe on a regular day you can do this look. You can do it also without the dots, or without the lips and keep only one or two elements of this make-up. We have to remember that fashion is playful. When it comes to make-up we can do whatever we want. It is a nice way to express who you are. Or how you want to be seen by other people. And at the end of the day you take a piece of cotton and make-up remover and it is gone. And the day after you can play somebody else. That is what it is about. Do, experiment, try and play, enjoy. Make-up as fashion is a serious business but serious means that you can do it with humor and fun."

Hair Look:
On below is an interview with the hair stylist, Eugene Souleiman and he has explained his ideas and designs of the hair style for Antonio Marras S/S catwalk look in Milan.
On below is what Eugene Souleiman told us about his inspirations and the hair design of this catwalk look during the interview.
" I love doing Antonio's shows and I understand his artisanal ability so I tried to do something more artisanal with the hair too. Something artisanal, something more playful, something very delicate, ornate and precious, but not precious in a upright serious way, but precious in a very delicate loving gentile way."
" The inspiration for me came from Patricia, Antonio's wife, because she always has interesting beautiful hairstyles. I tried to combine her look with a lot of Renaissance paintings and sculptors from Italy."
"So we have very beautiful ornate braids that look very cute and quirky. Very simple. There are no products in the braids, so the hair feels very light. It is soft and light and beautiful. My two daughters love hair like this. It is very playful and light, but at the same time very gorgeous."
I love the hair design by Eugene Souleiman on this catwalk look. It shows the elegant side but also looks delicate and abstract which gives an interesting and unique twist for the look as well.

The headdress catches my eyes when I was looking at the 2016 Spring/Summer trends and I like the flowery and delicate patterns on it which I think suitable for Antonio Marras garments on this catwalk as it shows the feminine side of women.

The chunky earrings and the use of pearls are two of the jewelleries and accessories trends in 2016 s/s.

The collection is inspired by the film 'The Color of Pmegranates' in 1968 which is directed by Sergei Paradjanov and also some collages by Parajanov as well. The film 'The Color of Pmegranates' was inspired by Arutyun Sayadyan, who is an 18th century American musician and poet and the film was inspired from his works and life. Throughout his poetry and music, he expressed his ideas in Georgian, Armenian and Azerbaijani languages. In Marras's collection, we can see the patterns on the garments imitate traditional Armenian costumes and also the use of colors and embriodery from 'The Color of Pmegranates'. He also takes inspirations from 70 art collages between 1970 and 1990 by Paradjanov for this collection. Marras discovers an interesting source by taking inspiration from “a dreamy, visionary atmosphere where unusual and fearless combinations emerge and where unexpected relations and continuous metamorphosis take place,” within his collection. The garments are focuses on shades like gold, white, red, earth tones such as green and brown. This collections provide the idea of being feminine, elegant and also I think it shows the mature sides of women as well.
Through Marras collection, I found out that his thoughts and ideas are similar to M.A.C as he likes to experiment with taking inspriations from traditional looks and combine with new, modern ideas and ideals.
