Creating Volume With Hair - Blow Dry # Techfile

Equipments:
  • Hair dryer
  • Round brushes
  • Serum
  • Towels
  • A comb
  • A paddle brush
  • Sectioning clips
  • Heat protector
  • Dry shampoo
In order to create the blow dry hairstyle, I have washed my model's hair before getting started. After I have washed my model's hair, I have applied serum which will helps to create shine and gives beautiful finish. Remember to remove 80% of the water from the hair first and then start to use the brushes to create styles. For the hairstyle, you can also use hair moose to style the hair but remember do not put too much hair moose as it will make the hair greasy. You can apply the hair moose to the mid length and the end of the hair, then run through the hair with your fingers. After finished the hairstyle, spray dry shampoo will help the hair create shine and soft texture.
Blinding shine serum
Matt Sea Spray
To create more volume for the hairstyle, before drying the hair, you can use product such as the Matt Sea Spray which is shown on above.

1st Style - Sleek Straight Hairstyle
You can use a Denman brush or a Paddle brush to create sleek straight hairstyle.

Directions:
  1. First, use a comb to comb the hair and get rid of the tangles of the hair.
  2. Then, put some of the blinding shine serum onto your hands and run through the hair with the products using your hands and fingers.
  3. After that, spray the heat protector onto the hair to protect the hair from the heat damage.
  4. Make sure 80% of the water has been removed from the hair before starting to create the hairstyle.
  5. Then, section the hair. Start from the bottom and work upwards.
  6. Remember work in small sections at once and don't take too thick hair. The hair shouldn't be wider than the brush. Grab a small section of hair and then place the paddle brush at the bottom of the hair section. Dry the roots of the hair first and use the hair dryer to dry the top part of the roots and the bottom part as well. After that, move onto drying the middle part and the end part of the hair. Lift the hair up when drying and the hair dryer should face towards yourself. When drying the middle section and the end part of the hair, brush through the hair and repeat the same actions until the hair is dry.

Directions:

  1. First, use a comb to comb the hair and get rid of the tangles of the hair.
  2. Then, put some of the blinding shine serum onto your hands and run through the hair with the products using your hands and fingers.

  4. Make sure 80% of the water has been removed from the hair before starting to create the hairstyle.
  5. Then, section the hair. Start from the bottom and work upwards. When sectioning the hair, divide the hair into front and back parts. Then, section the hair into triangle points.
  6. For this time, in order to create curls, use a round brush to create the style. First, take small section of hair and place the round brush under the hair and then start drying the roots of the hair first. Then, moving on drying the middle part and the end part of the hair. When drying the middle section and the end part of the hair, brush through the hair and repeat the same actions until the hair is dry. Place the hair dryer towards yourself.
  7. To create the curls, place the round brush to the end part of the hair first and then roll the hair up. After that, use the heat from the hairdryer to create curls. Make sure the hair is hot enough to create the curls before removing the hair from the brush.
  8. After that, you can use a sectioning clips or pins to secure the curls and hold them in place. Remember not to brush through the hair as the curls will not stay.
  9. Finally, after finish drying the hair, you can spray dry shampoo to create soft and nice finish. Backcombing can also be used to create more volume on the hairstyle.
I found it quite challenging to blow dry the hair but after practicing more times, I understand more the ideas and it gets better than my first attempt.

The Clean Catwalk Face: Foundation - dewy vs matte # Techfile

Matte Make-up look -
Equipments:
  • Cleanser, toner, moisturizer
  • Cotton pads
  • Couch roll
  • Baby buds
  • A spatula
  • Illamasqua matte Primer
  • Kryolan foundation palette
  • A buffing brush
  • Kryolan concealer palette
  • A fine brush
  • Illamasqua loose Powder
  • A puff
  • Illamasqua neutral eye shadow palette # Obsidian & Wolf
  • An angle brush
  • Seventeen contour palette
  • Too Faced Love Flush blush #Baby Love
Prepping the skin - If you have time, you can use face masks or use moisturizer and leave it on the skin (this helps for dry or dehydrated skin).

Make-up - For Oily skin to create a dewy look, you can use matte foundation and mix with some highlighter or liquid illuminator on the areas where you want to create the glow. Remember to avoid highlighting the pores in order to create the perfect skin.

You can use a tinted moisturizer to create extra glow on the skin before you start to apply foundation or concealer on the face. Apply concealer after apply foundation on the skin and just use concealer to cover the blemishes and imperfections on the face. For foundation, sometimes it is not necessary to apply it all over the face as if you create natural and fresh skin, you can just apply foundation on the forehead and blend it out.

Directions:
  1.  First, cleanse, tone and moisturize the face.
  2. Apply matte primer on the face as the base.
  3. As we are creating a clean catwalk look, don't apply too much concealer on the face, only use it to cover the blemishes and dark circles on the face. For the dark circles under the eye, I have applied a pinkish red color concealer first and then cover it with a light skin tone concealer and these will help to reduce and cover the dark circles more effectively.
  4. Apply foundation. I have used a buffing brush to apply the foundation on the face as it helps to create a more natural finish.
  5. Then, apply loose powder with a puff to reduce the shine on the face to create the matte look.
  6. After that, I have contour the face a little bit to define the structure of the face. I didn't apply a lot of contouring as we are aiming to create a clean catwalk face look.
  7. Then, I have mixed the color black and brown to match the natural color of my model's eyebrows. I have used an angle brush to draw the eyebrows and follow the shape of my model's brows.
  8. Finally, apply a natural color powder blush to make the appearance fresh and healthy looking.
I'm pleased with the matte make-up look that I've done in this lesson and I think the texture of the skin works successfully.

  1.  First, cleanse, tone and moisturize the face.
  2. Apply CC cream as the base. The reason I choose to use CC cream as it can reduce the redness on the face, moisturize and also create a light finish.
  3. After that, I have used the same method as the matte make-up look to conceal the face. As we are creating a clean catwalk look, I didn't apply too much concealer on the face. I only cover the blemishes and conceal the dark circles.
  5. After that, apply loose powder. I have only apply the powder around the eye area, the area below cheeks and on the side of the forehead as I want to remain shine on the cheek area, nose bridge, middle of the forehead, cupid's bow and on the chin.
  8. Apply a natural color powder blush to make the appearance fresh and healthy looking.
  9. After that, I have used a glitter liquid liner and apply it on the inner corner of the eyes and below the lower lashes to brighten the eyes.
  10. Then, curl the lashes and apply mascara on the top lashes.
  11. Then, I have applied a natural lip color on the lips using my finger to create a more natural finish. After that, I have applied a clear color lip gloss on the top.
  12. Finally, I have applied the MAC Mixing Medium # Shine to create the dewy skin texture. I have applied it on the chin, cupid's bow, above the cheek area, nose bridge and middle of the forehead.
The wet dewy look which I've done in this lesson, I found it very different compare to the photos which was taken in the studio with the photos taken in the make-up room. The photos taken in the make-up room doesn't look too dewy, but when I took the photos from the studio, the skin tend to look more dewy and shiny. After I've looked at the photos taken in the studio, I think to improve next time, I should apply lesser shine on the nose bridge and the middle of the forehead.

I have done another natural dewy skin look and this time, I have used the benefit cream highlighter to create the dewy look and I'm pleased with the final results of the look. On below are the photos taken for the look and I like the way how it looks natural and create a healthy skin effect.

Introduction - Beauty & The Brand Project

Throughout the 'Beauty & The Brand' Project, I will be documenting the developments of my design ideas and also my understanding of how make-up and hair design concepts for fashion and beauty are developed from idea conception through to realization. In this unit, I will produce two editorial looks (Exploring the theme/story behind the catwalk), two catwalk looks (Link to the chosen brand and the Spring/Summer 2016 trends) and two advertising images (Day & Night Looks) for my chosen brand. To develop my ideas further, I will research the 5 P's of my chosen brand and the 5 P's are Product, Promotion, Packaging, Presentation and Price Point for my chosen brand. This project will also allows me to understand the difference between editorial, advertising and catwalk looks. The outcome of the project is to let us understand the practical and theoretical side of how to produce creative and innovative visual designs. We will also take part in the role of being a photographer, fashion designer, stylist, make-up and hair designer and artist. By learning the techniques in photography, it allows us to understand how lighting and post production affects the final outcomes of the pictures. To explore my ideas further, I will start doing primary research, drawings and research from books, etc, to expand my creativity in this project.
